Dactah Chando está sentado en la playa de Almáciga en Tenerife. Es muy temprano, poco después de la salida del sol. La vista parece casi un espejismo / una ilusión. Su tabla de surf está a su lado y su” perrilla”, está emocionada porque ha salido del agua hace poco. Dactah Chando es surfero con toda el alma e hijo de la naturaleza.
Vive en una casita pequeña de piedras naturales. Su alrededor parece casi como una jungla. Palmeras de dátiles, mangos, papayas, plátanos, aguacates y nísperos....todo se encuentra muy cerca. La playa está a unos metros andando de su casa y cada mañana empieza el día bañándose y surfeando.
Me parece muy fiable, tranquilo y reposado.

Don Carlos (Euvin Spencer) nació y creció en Waterhouse, uno de los barrios más desfavorecidos de Kingston, bien conocido por haber dado grandes talentos del reggae como King Tubby, King Jammy, The Jays o Junior Reid por nombrar sólo algunos.Comenzó su carrera como cantante en 1973, junto a Rudolph "Garth" Dennis (que muy pronto pasó a unirse a Wailing Souls) y Derrick "Duckie" Simpson, figura central del trío que dió origen al legendario grupo Black Uhuru.Realmente sólo editaron dos canciones juntos: "Folk Song"(Dynamics) una versión del artista Curtis Mayfield, y "Time Is On Our Side" (Randy's). Don Carlos jugó un papel importante en la grabación del aclamado álbum "Love Crisis", el debut de Black Sounds Uhro (Black Uhuru) mezclado por Prince Jammy en el año 1977 con una nueva formación del grupo :Toney (Michael Rose) , Errol "Jay" Wilson y Duckie Simpson.Más tarde sería reeditado con el título "Black Sounds of Freedom".

At a 1992 press conference held during Jamaica’s now defunct Reggae Sunsplash (the forerunner to Reggae Sumfest, Jamaica’s largest reggae festival) singer Denroy Morgan introduced several of his 30 children to a contingent of international reporters. Most of the scribes in attendance were familiar with Morgan as the reggae artist who had topped the Billboard Hot 100 in 1982 with the R&B flavored hit “I’ll Do Anything For You”, (which is still in rotation on classic soul stations) but few at the event knew what he had been up to in the ensuing years. Morgan spoke at length about his unwavering commitment to Jah and his fruitful unions with three women that had produced (at the time) 27 children. He reflected on moving his children from their Brooklyn birthplace to Springfield, Massachusetts, so they could pursue their education without the distractions of urban life. As devout Rastafarians, he noted, the family prayed together several times daily, observed certain dietary restrictions and commuted to Brooklyn each weekend to work on their musical craft.

Mystic Souldiers nace en 2009 con la intención de continuar con el legado de los grandes grupos de la historia de la música jamaicana como The Wailers, Roots Radics, Black Uhuru o Aswad. Esta formación catalana busca ofrecer al público reggae de calidad, sin fusiones, roots y dub sin concesiones.

THE PIONEERS by Laurence Cane-Honeyset
Early in 1967, Sidney Crooks went to the studio to record an original composition entitled Gimme Little Loving at a session financed by Gibbs, but soon encountered a problem upon realizing the song would be more effective with an additional vocalist. Lacking a suitable partner to fill the role, he decided to throw caution to the wind and take a chance on a young man who happened to be singing outside the WIRL studio at the time. The singer was an electrical welder called Jackie Robinson and Sidney's gamble paid off handsomely; "Gimme Little Loving" went on to reach number three on the island's charts and so began a partnership that was to endure decades.

Stewart's career began in the late 1960s, his first single being 1969's "She's Gone", with Ernest Wilson of The Clarendonians. He worked with producer Derrick Harriot in the early 1970s, with releases such as "Hear That Train", and performed on the PNP bandwagon in 1971, in support of Michel Manley's election campaign. He sang with The Wildcats, Byron Lee & The Dragonaires, and The Boris Gardiner Happenning, then went solo and had a local hit in 1973 with "Funny Feeling", and won the 1974 Festival Song Contest with Ernie Smith's "Play de Music", which went on to become a hit in both the Jamaican chart and the United Kingdom reggae chart.
